It also helps to smooth your skin folds in the cheeks and jawline.
This is done by lifting the flaps of your skin on both sides of your face, the tissues under the skin are changed, and excess skin is removed. This procedure gives the face a more youthful appearance.
This procedure can have other procedures done with it so that the results may be more enhanced and better looking, for example neck lift is often performed as part of a facelift.

Be prepared to answer any questions concerning any illness that you have and types of medication that you have or currently taking.

  • Check your bone structure.
  • Check the shape of your face.
  • Check the distribution of fat.

You must arrange for someone to drive you home after surgery and assist you for at least the first day.

What happens during the facelifting procedure ?

The facelift procedure involves lifting the skin and tightening the tissues and muscles of your face to give it a more young and natural look.
The doctor will either sculpt, remove or transfer the fat in your face into an other area of your body.
The doctor will make an incision that starts at the temples at your hairline and extends downwards, around the frontal region of your ears and ends behind the ears in the lower scalp area.
A second incision will be made below the chin to improve the appearance of your neck. The neck lift incision starts in the area in front of the earlobe and extends to the area around the ears until it reaches the lower scalp.
The facelift surgery usually takes between 3 and 6 hours to be completed, however the duration of the operation may be prolonged if other cosmetic procedures are performed in conjunction with it.

What happens after the facelift surgery ?

After a facelift, you may experience some mild pain, swelling and numbness, this is very normal, and when it comes to the pain it's very manageable and your doctor will prescribe painkillers for any discomfort.
Take your time to rest and heal during the first couple of days, when you lay down you should do so with your head slightly elevated.
To manage the pain and swelling you should apply cold compresses to the face and take the medicine your doctor prescribed.
You will be back at the clinic the day after surgery, to remove the drainage tube, the surgeon will also likely apply antibiotic ointment to the incisions and apply fresh bandages to your face, these bandages will be replaced after two or three days.
